Liderança no voleibol: relação entre filosofia, prática e indicadores de liderança

This study had two main goals: (a) to evaluate athletes’ and their respective coaches’ perceptions regarding coaches’ ability to establish a relationship between leadership philosophy, leadership practice, and leadership criteria; and (b) to test the assumption that coaches with higher congruency in their leadership (i.e., who present a linear relationship between their leadership philosophy, practice and criteria) are more effective in their leadership. Leadership efficacy was assessed by athletes’ satisfaction with leadership and their perceptions of sport performance. Participants included 157 volleyball athletes and their respective coaches (n = 14). The results showed that coaches and athletes have similar perceptions, agreeing on the need for coaches to be more explicit regarding their leadership philosophy, leadership practice, and leadership criteria. It was also concluded that the higher congruency on leadership cycles is associated with higher levels of satisfaction with coaches and with higher perceptions of collective sport performance which is according to the Leadership Effectiveness Model.
