Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected Portuguese schools and their principals substantially. Trying to know the reactions to the crisis on the part of these principals, a questionnaire prepared by a group of Spanish researchers and previously used in Spain has been translated and applied. Based on a mixed methodology, the research presents the results corresponding to the satisfaction of the Portuguese principals regarding their role in the confinement and post-confinement stages. A 90% of the principals are satisfied with their crisis management thanks to their quick adaptation and proactive attitude to it. However, although to a small extent, they point out the excess bureaucracy as problematic and that the aid received was insufficient. Principals not satisfied with the crisis attribute it to their personal limitations and other external limitations. The responses reveal how Portuguese leaders have faced the crisis and can encourage comparisons with their Spanish counterparts.
