Abstract
A painting representing the Visitation, made in 1592 by Diogo Teixeira for the Chapel of St.Elizabeth of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Oporto, considered one of the most important works of the painter, was the subject of a technical study that, in addition to the direct observation, included ultraviolet fluorescence photography, infrared photography, radiography, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and optical microscopy. It was found that the support and the ground layer have unusual features and the paint was carried out in a relatively simple way with common pigments. The results are discussed in order to characterize the artist.
