Abstract
This article pretends to discuss two classic Portuguese books: Memorial do Convento, written by José Saramago, and Os Lusíadas, written by Luís de Camões. Many times on the novel the contemporary author decides to use intertextuality to evoke his precursor. In Memorial do Convento, Saramago did not repeated the verses just for beauty. The verses are there to inaugurate a new writing.
