Abstract

From the point of view of the absolute of its act, for Louis Lavelle, time is a derivative of the ontological differentiation that is the core of both what constitutes the sphere of being and what constitutes the sphere of human intelligence as that which, by exercising itself, creates being as an act of meaning. From the act, as the absolute of the differentiation that creates the real, the whole real, time measures the difference. This difference is also an absolute that nothing destroys. This absolute marks what is new in each being, given in and by its difference, to nothing reducible. The mythical sense of time as that which devours the children does nothing more than mark the irreversibility of each new act, which, in creating each new ontological disposition of the world, is unrepeatable, unrecoverable: the world is always an infinite novelty before human intelligence or it is nothing.
