Abstract

The 9/11, and the following terrorist attacks of Madrid and London, created the perception of the existence of a single movement, which aim the destruction of the western civilization, resorting to the violence with justifications in the Islamic religion. However, there are other threats that do not resort to violence, so it is necessary to identify them, to combat them appropriately. For that reason, the present master thesis aims to respond to the following question: how to combat the Dawa and Jihad threats promoted by the ideology of the Radical Islamism and by the groups that defend them?On Chapter 1, we will define some concepts as well justify the choice of the designation Radical Islamism, in confrontation with other designations. On Chapter 2, we will analyse ideologues that illustrate and support the ideology of Radical Islamism. On Chapter 3, we will examine the way how the ideology of Radical Islamism manifests in non-violent Islamist groups, which adopt the strategy of Dawa, as well as in violent Islamist groups, which adopt the strategy of Jihad. Also, we will define some Islamist groups that operate in Europe and the correspondent threats that they pose.On Chapter 4, we will define how the ideology of Radical Islamism influences the process of radicalization in Islamic extremism. On Chapter 5, we will define the actions that must be taken to deal with non-violent Islamist groups, as well as violent Islamist groups - according to their different strategies - considering that some of these threats are common (e.g. religious distortions) and others are specific. On Chapter 6, we will present the conclusions of the present master thesis.
