Abstract

This article aims to analyse three representations of Saint Stephen that belong to three illuminated manuscripts produced by the scriptorium of the Cistercian abbey of Alcobaça in the 14th century. This study will combine the textual sources used to represent the saint and the importance that liturgical manuscripts from Alcobaça seem to attribute to him. It is also our intention to discuss the impact and the importance of the artistic circulation, but also Alcobaça’s identity in the three illuminated manuscripts.
