Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to frame the analysis of Melville's Moby Dick made by the philosopher, essayist, poet and thinker Dalila Pereira da Costa in the light of the conceptual framework developed by Phenomenology and Hermeneutics of Religion. The hint of analysis categories such as sacred and mystery or concepts such as myth and symbol, used by authors such as G. van der Leuuw, R. Otto, M. Eliade, P. Ricoeur, J. M. Velasco, help us to contextualize and clarify the lines of interpretation developed by this Oporto author.
