Abstract
Sleep is a basic need that influences, and is influenced simultaneously, by the diversity of life activities, roles and contexts, assuming particular importance in adolescents. A study was developed with 400 students in 9th and 11th school years, of two schools in the Lisbon, assessed by the Questionnaire about Sleep for Adolescents. The quantitative results focused on sleep habits, self-perceptions and knowledge. From the qualitative exploration of the factors cited by 100 adolescents as a reason of their selfperceptions, emerged the categories of quality, relevance and attitudes. Based on these results we propose a three-dimensional model about sleep that addresses sleep habits, personal factors and environmental factors.
