Abstract
This article seeks to analyse and question the historical significance of the ordination of priests celebrated in the diocese of Coimbra in the 1420s made, grosso modo, by Bishop Fr Lopo, holder of Salmacia This correspondingly elucidates not only on the relevance of this typology of documental sources to the history of the church for reconstructing the dynamics of circulation among the clergy between dioceses but also to understanding, based on the Coimbra case, the mechanisms of controlling and guaranteeing the authenticity of the process behind the promotion of clergy members to the lesser and greater orders of the late Middle Ages.
