Abstract
This article is a study on Os fornos quentes by the ex-guerrilla fighter Reinaldo Guarany Simões, an autobiographical novel about his experience in West Germany in the 1970s, where he lived with his companion, Maria Auxiliadora Lara Barcelos, also a former guerrilla fighter who died there. We articulated notions of survival (AGAMBEN, 2008) and melancholy (AGAMBEN 2007; FREUD, 1992), trying to capture the writer’s effort to erase the survivor, Guarany Simões himself, and the corresponding illumination of Maria Auxiliadora, victim of the toils of the exile (BOYM, 2017; SAID, 2003).
