Os movimentos metafísicos da Filosofia Portuguesa contemporânea

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

This article aims to identify in contemporary Portuguese thought its main metaphysical currents and the philosophers associated with them. It also seeks to characterize the specificity of Portuguese philosophy in the European context, which translates into its theory of melancholy and the traditional umbilical relationship with literature and theology, namely, in its poetic form and in its mystical or spiritual expression. Assuming the intimate union between reason and emotion, reason and faith, understanding and experience, Portuguese metaphysics is centered on the notions of Mystery and Excess and seeks an incessant overcoming of pantheistic monisms and deistic dualisms. The result is translated into the assumption of three fundamental paths: the metaphysics of split and restoration founded on the emanatist panttheism of impersonal divine union; the metaphysics of the fall and redemption, founded on the theism of personal divine union; the metaphysics of creation and manifestation, founded on the creationist theism of immanent transcendence under the forms of personal communion and universal fulfillment.
