Abstract
At the XV Meeting of Public Law Professors, held on 9 September 2022 and dedicated to the digitalisation of Law, I presented some observations on pressing challenges to the right to the protection of personal data of internet users. It was a note that allowed me to systematise some issues that have emerged in my research in recent years. The dynamics of the event facilitated a less dogmatic and more engaging exposition. This article compiles the notes from the presentation and reflects, in a non-extensive manner and without monographic detail, on challenges to the integrity and security of the data that individuals share online. These challenges consist of the danger of surveillance, manipulation, and control over information and people, the weaknesses of individual consent to the processing of data and the risks of interoperability of the systems that share them, the leaks derived from the inadequacies of digital archives, and the damage from spam, fakes, and catfishing.
