Os rituais tradicionais portugueses na performance de Armando Azevedo e Albuquerque Mendes

The theme of this paper is about representations of performance art in Portugal;
specifically, this focuses on performances by Albuquerque Mendes and Armando
Azevedo and how they are influenced by traditional Portuguese rituals. In this way,they refer to traditional ethnographic cultures in some of their performance art. Wecan see this presence in their performance because they merge the symbolism of rituals, the clothes and colors and performative actions that incorporate influences from popular and religious Portuguese traditions such
as caretos and farricocos, which are personas maintained over long centuries of
tradition. Some of other traditions are the Feast of the Boys, which is a rite of
passage into adulthood for adolescents, and the religious processions of Holy Week. These elements are inherent in the work of both artists, each one describing their unique and singular legacy of ancient times.
