Abstract
Nineteenth century Portuguese women who dared to revolutionize the social order imposed by men and decided to write in the feminine or male press can be considered true heroines. The texts they wrote on their evolution as intellectuals, on equality between the sexes and on the prevailing feminine conditions of life testify to their rare audacity. Not only were several prejudices concerning education and instruction turned upside down but they also began to change longstanding and established identities regarding women.
