Abstract

This article aims to contribute to the field of Communication, in the area of Internet Studies, by proposing a reflection on research methods, approaching techniques called Social Network Monitoring or social media monitoring (SMM) as a tool for collecting and analyzing user-generated content on social networks. The objective is to present common categories of investigation and patterns in research reports from systems or robots that monitor, collect and analyze the online content generated by users. The result shows that the categories reach, sentiment analysis, and engagement make up a common methodological outline in the results.
