Abstract

In its July 1991 issue editorial, the magazine Kapa reflected on the use of the photo-graphic image in the context of Portuguese journalism, emphasizing the artistic, narra-tive and argumentative potential of the photographic apparatus. This approach was not a novelty, since the magazine founded by Miguel Esteves Cardoso was lined up with the precepts that were already followed by O Independente’s cultural supplement, Caderno 3. Thus, this paper aims to revisit both Caderno 3 and Kapa in order to discuss the relevance given to photographic images in these publications and arguing that a poetics of photographic image is outlined in them.
