Abstract

Appealing to justice is something that, we might say, is part of human nature. Being a person implies a commitment to justice. For a Christian, this commitment can never be separated from truth, charity and faith. There is no faith without struggle for justice, i.e., without action. This is what the Gospel teaches us and what Pedro Arrupe reinforces. And if the strength of justice is in the search for truth, it is also evident that truth without charity, without faith, can lead to something dehumanizing, i.e., to eliminate people instead of uniting them and building community. In the name of the truth one cannot destroy nor kill anyone. How to combine these concepts without falling into radicalism or absenteeism or immobility? Justice requires education so that courage, self-criticism, action, at a personal level and in social structures, can change, with quality and prudence, the world in which we live. Pedro Arrupe alerts us to this. Only those who are educated can be critically available to fight for the dignity of every human being.
