Abstract

Introduction: Over the past 30 years it has been carried out scientific studies in different cultures in order to understand the family's opinion about their presence if an event were to have any cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Although cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a moment with a high degree of stress and a very chaotic event for healthcare professionals and family, there is a growing tendency for some institutions begin to believe that it is beneficial their presence. Many teams still believe that the family can express feelings that can disrupt and cause moments of distraction, and may even try to interfere with their work. Material and Methods: The purpose of the review was to understand whether it is beneficial for the family to be present when the team is performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It considered the following key words: stress, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, family and held further research on the basis of b-ON and EBSCO data. Initially yielded 25,368 articles in b-ON database and 81 articles in the EBSCO database and after narrow the search for the last 5 years, fit means, from 2011 to 2015 yielded 11,489 articles. Exclusion criteria were duplicated articles and research is refined through some inclusion criteria, in particular, the appropriateness to the topic under study, articles analyzed by experts, full text and address the views of professionals, they were included for analysis 5 articles. Result: Each family lives the time of resuscitation differently and can react in various ways. Throughout the process it is essential that the team respects the beliefs and culture of the family and the victim. It is important to have a professional, trained, accompanying family lived along the event. However, before implementing the process, it must be planned and prepared. The family has expressed their willingness to stay and watch the resuscitation because they would like to stay with the victim. On one hand, some professionals accept the presence of the family believing that it can be seen by observing that the protocols were followed and everything was done. While spreads its presence can give the false impression that the team would be to hide some information. The lack of information and the deficit in communication transmitted between the team and the family means that the family does not understand the seriousness of the situation and the evolution of the event is below. This deficit stems distrust the feelings within the family and may result in inappropriate behavior such as moments of conflict and / or aggression directed the team. The family watched the resuscitation showed that it was a positive moment that helped the healthy start of the grieving process and expressed willingness to be again in a similar future event. Conclusions: Over the years it has created a barrier with the family presence at the time of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. However, there has been increasing investment and greater acceptance by professionals. It is important that more studies are developed within this area, to investigate the benefits of family presence and refine the following policies by health professionals.
