Abstract

This text aims to describe the development of the system for the promotion of rights and protection of children and young people in Portugal, considering, in a perspective of historical evolution, the legal framework, the guiding principles, the intervention structures, the protection measures and the procedural procedures. Through the analysis of the current situation of the child and youth protection commissions, three future paths are highlighted: (i) to continue promoting the permanence of the child in its natural life context; (ii) to reinforce the respect for the life history of families, as well as the right to privacy and intimacy; (iii) to enhance the digital transformation in the field of intervention in the protection of young children.
