Abstract

The program “Learning from the ears!” Is presented as a promotional tool for phonological skills to children who are attending preschool. The learning of reading and writing to the 1st cycle of the level of basic education is assumed as an important milestone in academic life so its preparation not only enhances school success but prevents learning difficulties, as national and international studies on this topic. The program, which pilot study is presented in this article, consists in ten weekly sessions with the following objectives: to increase the vocabulary of children; sensitivity to the phonological aspects of the mother tongue; previous competencies for the acquisition of reading and writing; familiarizing children with the written code; prevention of possible difficulties in reading and writing learning. To evaluate the language skills of children was applied individually, the Identification Test of Language Skills (TICL; Viana, 2004) in two distinct periods: the pre-test and pos-test. 25 children have participated in this pilot study, 8 children were males and 17 female. The layout plan of intervention for these children has proved effective, as gains were evidenced in their language skills, both in terms of lexical knowledge, and in terms of morpho syntactic knowledge, auditory memory and reflection on language. However, given the nature of the study carried out does not allow the generalization of results.
