Abstract

The polishing methods and the operator’s ability are the main factors that influence surface roughness of denture base acrylic resins. In the literature it is described the nonexistence of a polishing method independent of the operator’s ability. The purpose of this research was to develop a control polishing tool (CPT) for in vitro controlled and conditioned polishing protocols for dental materials. This tool was developed by using CAD-CAM technology. A proof of concept was defined with the use of this CPT to polish denture base materials. The results obtained evidence the viability of a standardized method for polishing surfaces as a new approach to reduce all biases related to operator’s skill and access to the inherent feature of each material.
