Abstract
The Brazilian colonial architecture is singular due to the different European influences in its conception. Cities as Ouro Preto, in Minas Gerais, are world references of the Brasilian colonial architecture. In Brasil - the architectonic conservation and restoration works - have known a great development tin the last decades, mainly due both to the need of historic buildings preservation - and tothe impact of the international conservation charters guidelines.- Non-destructive testing on wooden structures is an unexplored alternative for the study and diagnosis of historical constructions. The reinforced rafters scissors , a constructive system very widespread between the 17th and 19th centuries in Brazilian historical cities, is a structural cover that, because of its inherent -instability suffers great plastic deformations and displacements, weakening underlying constructive systems such as masonry. In this article we aim to demonstrate the importance of the non-destructive methods withinthe characterization of wood pathologies in historical structures, in order to establish new approaches - that respect the integrity of the -historical structures.
