Abstract

The organic food market has elevated with time, as consumers nowadays are reluctant to consume conventional food, which is subjected to unwanted chemicals, pesticides and preservatives. Over the years, organic eatables have gained a significant base in the communities owing to their several positive attributes, such as improved nutritional quality, zero use of pesticides/chemicals, protection of animal life and preservation of the environment. In this review, we have discussed the current status regarding consumer perception, business and marketing strategies and financial credibility related to the organic food industry. Subsequently, the main key drivers of the organic food market (hunger war, product quality and sustainability of natural resources) have been analyzed. After the analysis of key drivers, the regional breakdown of the green market into Asian, European and Western has been discussed thoroughly. Furthermore, the emerging trends of organic food industries comprising organic vegetables/fruits, organic dairy products, organic meat and organic aquaculture have been mentioned. Finally, the major challenges being skeptical consumers, pesticide use, inefficient supply chain, untrained workers and uneconomical sources have been stated and discussed. Moreover, the future outlook that can be followed to attain desired retail sales of organic food products in the global market has also been mentioned.
