Abstract
Against the guiding principle of the Western capitalist contemporaneity, of an essential separation - humans and nature, languages, groups - initiatives such as the revival of beach-related memories by older people prove to be more than an alternative to historical rationality: they are activities that combine ethics and ecology to discuss memory processes as citizenship tools. From this perspective, the article discusses how a sociocultural and ecological practice carried out in 2023 on a Portuguese beach touches on fundamental dimensions of community ethics and is concerned with the inclusion of older citizens, as well as it reveals perceptions of beach-going that are marked by gender and class differentiations.
