Abstract

Relationism is a doctrine that accepts some requirements for the ontology of spacetime. In theory, relationism is the only proposal capable of meeting these requirements. I will try to show: a) the underlying empiricist commitment; b) some criteria and requirements that the relationist imposes (explicitly or implicitly); c) that our best theory of spacetime is not fully relationist, despite the avowed intention of its author; d) that the requirements are not ineliminable, taking into account their being restricted to the explanatory power of theories. After discussing the relevance of the relationist requirements, this essay will present an argument for substantivalism.
