Abstract
Introduction: Considering the long-term performance of endodontically treated teeth, several factors can lead to mechanical failures, mainly in teeth involving excessive structural loss. Objective: The main purpose of this paper was to perform a narrative review on root intracanal posts on teeth with a lack of remnant tooth tissues. Results: Results from previous studies pointed out the importance of maintaining tooth structure at the coronary level for the long-term clinical success of endodontically treated teeth. Teeth root intracanal treatment and post type selection are dominant factors for further dental restoration. Conclusions: Even though the recent technological developments, mechanical and geometrical issues induce clinical failures and replacement of materials or loss of teeth tissues. Such issues cause considerable consequences for the patients such as discomfort and additional costs.
