Abstract
Este trabalho descreve o processo de transição demográfica, o crescimento populacional e o envelhecimento da população mundial, o papel do serviço social e em particular o envelhecimento em Portugal, suas tendências, fatores determinantes, os efeitos do envelhecimento e as principais iniciativas públicas de combate às consequências do envelhecimento.
This paper describes the demographic transition process, population growth and the aging of the world population, the role of social service and in particular aging in Portugal, its trends, determining factors, the effects of aging and the main public initiatives to combat consequences of aging.
