Abstract
The observation of the cultural changes of the past few decades, as well as the examination of the cultural analysis of the same period show how interpretations are heterogeneous and controversial, and recommend attention to both emerging phenomena and attitudes of revision of the past. Colonial and postcolonial heritages are of the utmost importance for the analysis of contemporary European and Portuguese culture, and the revision of Western policies on the “Rest” of the world have been leading to an “Age of Apology”. At the same time the incorporation of decolonial perspectives on the field of cultural production and analysis is presenting exciting challenges to traditional conceptions of national identity. The main purpose of the chapter is to rethink traditional concepts of European and Portuguese identity in the face of the recent challenges brought about by the post and the decolonial turns in cultural analysis.
