Abstract
The controversial Directive 2019/790 of 17 April 2019 on copyright and related rights in the digital single market will have to be transposed into national law by 7 June 2021. This Directive is complex and will lead to profound changes in Portuguese copyright law. The changes will involve the recasting of the existing Copyright and Related Rights Code or even the adoption of a new Code. Although the first approach is preferable, this opportunity should be taken to make corrections and updates to the existing legal framework, even in areas not affected by the Directive. A slavish and hasty copy of the text of the Directive in current Portuguese Copyright laws and to make proposals on how to best transpose it.
