Abstract
In this paper, some of the front page titles of the weekly newspaper O Independente will be taken into account.
These titles are both informative and compelling, and their strength can be explained by the use of rhetorical devices such as irony, metaphor and metonymy. Commonly referred as “figures of speech” and regarded as ornament, we will see how that these devices are intrinsic to any discourse. In fact, it is through them that thought takes shape, being, therefore, so they are crucial to any strategy
communication.
