Abstract

Based on the case study of an IKEA Portugal unit, the IKEA Loures store which has 500 co-workers of the total 2000 in the country. Besides the unit management team, reporting to the national This article explores team leader’s role in internal communication within organizations, management team in a matrix system, the organization structure includes group leaders and team leaders, on a level below, who will be the focus of the study. Internal communication is therefore presented as a strategic arena in the company. In this sense, this article addresses the investigation question “What is the team leader’s role in internal communication at IKEA?”. Through this research it was possible to realize that team leaders recognize the importance of internal communication in the everyday team management and in this sense, information sharing is a priority, being the most valued personal contact, both by leaders as well as teams.
