Abstract
The nineteenth-century women's periodical press was in Portugal the scene of the struggle for the affirmation of women against gender inequality and against discrimination. These women fought against taboos and prejudices of both sexes that prevented equal civil and political rights; the various “emancipations” parity in the education and practice a profession. Contrary to these, other contributors defended conservative positions. This communication intends to show aspects of the dialogue between these two tendencies, favoring the first.
