Abstract

This article aims to validate whether Olympics and Paralympics events are given a diverse news treatment by the online media. To that end, it compares the main moments of glory of the Beijing 2008 games as conveyed by the Portuguese and Brazilian online media: the gold medals of Maureen Maggi and Daniel Dias (representing Brazil) against similar achievements of Nelson Évora and João Paulo Fernandes (belonging to the Portuguese national team).
