Abstract

The doctrine of Platonic exemplarism was one of the medieval paradigmatic causes of medieval Augustinism. Its progressive elimination was a symptom of the irruption of Aristotelian thought. The Aristotelian modernity was replaced it by the cause of the four Aristotelian causes. Outside the Aristotelian tradition, exemplary causality was not abandoned. One case we have in the reference that Francisco Suarez makes to the exemplary cause. In this study we locate some keys of the context of the thought on the exemplary cause that Francisco Suárez received in the dialogue with other authors of the School of Salamanca.
