Abstract
The common market or single market is at the core of what the European Union (EU) does. The delivery of economic results is therefore not only central for European economic integration, but also very important for the success of the political integration project.1 Over the past decades, economic and political dimensions have been interacting with a view to European integration, thereby shaping (the evolution of) the EU economic governance framework.
