Abstract

Assuming the role of reader and mediating agent, I will make the narratives dialogue with each other, as if one were the key to reading the other. The Comparison between the short stories of Mary Lavin and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen will be better understood through the term dialogue. This will be established in pairs: comparing one of Sophia's short stories with another by Lavin, putting six short stories in dialogue, with the compared pairs themselves dialoguing with each other and that, whenever appropriate, reference will be made to other Tales. The purpose of this dialogue(s) is not to diminish the uniqueness of each narrative, but, on the contrary, to highlight its interpretative potential giving it other reading possibilities. In this way, using the close-reading technique, I will make an exercise of comparative literature(s), in which linguistic and cultural differences will be a factor of mutual enrichment.
