Trauma sensitive schools: characterization of needs and outcomes from a capacity building program

Abstract

The last presentation will address the characterization of Portuguese schools regarding their preparation and implementation of trauma sensitive care policies and practices. It also reports on the results regarding knowledge about trauma and satisfaction of a capacity building program for school staff, that enrolled, at this point, 252 leaders, teachers, psychologists, and other staff were trained, following a whole school approach. The outcomes here presented speak about both the needs and the ability to leverage change in schools - a front-line institution, present in the life of every children and youth, which can, therefore, can display a critical role in the provision of trauma sensitive care.
