Abstract

The analysis of the documentary “A Man and his work” made in 1971 about the founder of CUF, Alfredo da Silva, help us to know more about this business group, as well as its social and economic impact in a particular space and in a particular time: Barreiro in the second half of the twentieth century. With this study one can better understand certain economic guidelines that were followed and their social and political purposes. The “materials” and “human” heritage depicted in these images and sounds gain a deeper meaning, and thus becomes a primary source of research.
