Abstract
This study aimed to identify the basic human needs perceived by nurses, in drug addicts. It is an exploratory, retrospective, descriptive, and documentary analysis, with a sample of patients in opiate maintenance program, in a specialized outpatient care. We analyzed 62 outpatients processes (transferred, excluded or abandonment) in 2010, starting from a records analysis model. The results show us that the perceived needs are: Self-esteem, learning disabilities (health education), Self-realization; Therapy; socio-economic security, emotional security. Not detected: Exercise, Love, Communication, Creativity, Religion and Philosophy of life. Nurses perceive and respond for psychosocial needs mainly. The quality of the records was the main difficulty and the comparison of results was hampered by the inexistence of a needs systematic assessment.
