Abstract
This presentation aims to introduce the investigation project “The district of Portalegre in the border: from smuggling to industrial development”. Still in its germinal stadium, the project intends to study the smuggling in the district of Portalegre, and it has been proposed to Associação para o Desenvolvimento
em Espaço Rural do Norte Alentejo (ADER-AL) [Association for the Development of the North Alentejo’s Rural Space].
Addressing the acknowledgment of smuggling activity importance and richness to the economic development of the district of Portalegre, the project will enhance the historical, cultural and economical heritage of smuggling as means to pursue and achieve local development. Oral history techniques,
quantative and qualititative methologies and oral testemonies will be used.
The project, yield from a partnership from ESE, ESTG and C3i, will seek to involve a wide range of
IPP’s teachers and students, local associations and other partners, who wish to engage in these issues.
