Abstract

At times, we fail to notice the small weed growing through the rifts of the pavement, distracted as we are with the endless spreading of the global system of production. The domination of the natural depends on the continuous operations of cleaning and ordering against the chaotic growth of the world, starting from the definition of the categories of natural and artificial.

These installative and durational screening sessions are based on the working materials of the broader project In Nature’s Spite (in development film 2020-2023?) filmed in two deactivated mines in distinct stages of abandonment: Estufa Fria in Lisbon, transformed in urban garden; and São Domingos mine, a toxic ruin still under recuperation. The invitation is to inquiry in these wastelands (past and present) for audacity and signs of an insolence that could suggest to us forms of resistance against the inevitable hegemony of production.
