Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the elections of pope Gelasius II (John of Gaeta, 1118-1119) and of “Antipope” Gregory VIII (Maurice “Bourdin”, 1118-1121) and their “soundscapes”. Through the analysis of Pandulf's Vita Gelasii II and Landulf Iuniore’s Historia Mediolanensis, I will show how both sounds and silences displayed in sources, are also important elements to better understand these works and their authors’ ecclesiological and/or political perspective.
