Abstract

The use of chlorhexidine wipes in intensive care units on prevention of MRSA becomes a current and important problem. Therefore, the purpose of this review was to understand known information in the literature about the use of this product in intensive care units. Method: review of the literature by searching through electronic databases Web of Science, b-ON and EBSCO. Inclusion criteria were articles inserted in the last five years (2012-2017) available in full text and which reference the theme. In total the number of articles obtained was seven. Results: In total, nine articles were obtained, it being verified that body hygiene with 2% chlorhexidine wipes during the first five days of hospitalization is considered a solution for the reduction of MRSA contamination rates in hospital units, not verifying important allergic reactions in its use. Conclusion: The use of chlorhexidine wipes in the first five days of hospitalization of a patient in an intensive care unit has a significant risk reduction of MRSA acquisition.
