Abstract
The quality of the peer attachment established during adolescence has been discussed as a protecting factor towards the involvement in school violence. The presence of an association between peer attachment and the development of self-esteem could have a sig-nificant effect as a protecting factor against bullying during adolescence. The present study tested the pre-dictor effect of peer attachment on different bullying conduct, as well the mediational role of self-esteem on the same association. The sample consisted of 351 individuals of both genders, with ages between 12 and 17 years old. The use of a model structural equation allowed obtaining results that point to the existence of a peer attachment predictive effect on victimization and aggressive behavior. Results also showed a total negative mediational effect of self-esteem on the association between peer attachment and victimization, namely the physical aggression. There is also a partial negative mediational effect on the association between peer attachment and victimization behavior towards social exclusion and verbal aggression.
