Abstract

This paper presents the development of an augmented reality (AR) application for visualizing the five convexregular polyhedrons, known as platonic solids. The application provides a virtual interactive environment for the visualization, construction, deconstruction and manipulation of these polyhedrons, allowing users to explore the properties of each platonic solid, e.g. faces, vertices and edges as well as the respective spatial constructions (in 3D) with or without animation. A pilot study showed that the students enjoyed using the application and considered it facilitated the study of the solids.
