Abstract

This essay aims to assess the admissibility and relevance of loyalty shares in Portugal. For this purpose, we give special attention to the amendment to the Portuguese Securities Code, which established the system of multiple voting rights shares in listed companies. We also make an analysis of the risks and benefits of loyalty shares, not ruling out their possible (future) application to unlisted companies.
