Abstract

In this work we intend to develop a study on aspects related to the first steps of learning of the musical instrument cello, namely regarding the position and position of the instrument, the position of the right hand on the bow and its movements and the position and movements of the hand and left arm on the cello arm. We present the various methods of cello applied today, and in particular those of André Navarra and Paul Tortelier, addressed to the aforementioned aspects, discussing their contributions to the learning of this instrument, as well as the convergences and divergences between them. After a bibliographical revision on the subject in question resorting not only to the pedagogues under analysis, but also to other cellists and pedagogues of the present time, a broader view was sought that allowed a more in-depth knowledge of the methods of Navarre and Tortelier. In a second part, a case study based on experiences developed in the classroom, with the practical application of the suggestions of the methods presented, the applied methodology sought to extract from the methods of application of instrumental didactics of André Navarra and Paul Tortelier useful learning to students who begin their cello apprenticeship. It also aimed to verify if these methods can be applied to various body structures of students and 10-year-old students. The conclusions point to the relevance of this comparative study, from the point of view of didactic application to initial learning of cello pupils.
