In my dissertation I will be discussing the role of language and how it is performed on the process of identity building of queer people in Brazil. The work will intend to answer the question “How does the performative aspect of language influence the contemporary identity building process in the brazilian queer1 community?”. What is more, the research will be carried through a case study of the works of emerging brazilian queer music artists, with a focus on Linn da Quebrada, in order to show how language is subverted and utilized by a marginalized community as means to circumvent the oppression they suffer. The research will analyze the cases through a multifocal lens that includes performance, gender, queer and violence studies.
