The theme of this work is the attraction and retention of creative human capital, focusing on what can be distinctive from place to place. This case study seeks an understanding of attraction and retention factors specifically connected to Porto in the northern region of Portugal, taking into consideration the demographic, socioeconomics and cultural characteristics of the city. A theoretical approach has been made, cross-referencing the work of several academics from this area of research, analyzing the knowledge and nature of concepts such as: talent, creative class, creative industries and economic growth potential of a place plus the identification of the specific attraction factors of the territory. The work also contains an empirical perspective which is centered on the vision of key opinion makers with the capacity to develop policy and implement them within the Creative Industries in Portugal. The aforementioned attraction factors have been identified, as well as possible lines of action stemming from them, in an attempt to understand their impact on the region and, in particular, on the city of Porto.
